Being new to crossbows, before I started to use the Barnett crossbows...I  never shot one before. My friends had a few and absolutely loved them!

I started to read some of teh reviews and they were very impressive. Comparing them to other brands like Horton, TenPoint and Excalibur really revealed the value Barnett brings to the table.

When i ordred my very first one, I loved it. Very accurate right out of the box, comes with everything. You need to get started except broadheads for hunting. you do get practice tips and one tube of wax. you need to wax string every 5-10 shots, sounds like a chore but its not, wax tube is like chapstick and easy to apply. Buy a redhot roller cocker with it and its almost effortless to cock the 150lb bow. useing fingers is possible but fingers were sore after 5 times and didnt want to do it again.

It would be SUPER wise if you designate a few arrows for practicing and the rest for hunting. This can help you get better hunting when bolts are not used for plain ol fun.

For the cost of Barnett crossbows and what they are capable of doing, I was extraordinarily impressed with them. My first thought was to test the velocity of their claimed 320-410 fps. Using my chronograph, I was suprised to see that it shoots faster than 345 fps using the factory arrows and field points. I would also add that my niece bought the barnett predator and it easily shoots their claim of 375 fps. Next we sighted in the scope. All crossbows were unbelievably accurate to the point that they shot better groups at 50 yds than my scoped slug gun. If I had to say anything bad about their package, it would be the scope. The scopes and scope rings that come with it are absolute junk but should not reflect on the performance of the crossbow itself. I had to replace the scope rings on mine and my niece had to replace her whole scope. The eye relief on the scope is terrible and after several days of sitting, the scope has terrible "drift" and needed top be resighted in until the drift stopped. My niece replaced hers with a truglo scope and has had flawless performance out of it. Both crossbows are amazingly accurate from a benchrest out to 75 yds with the Quad 400 and up to 85 yds with the Predator. Dont think that you will actaully make a clean 85 yard shot in the woods with it simply because of the height of the arch while the arrow is on flight would certainly hit a branch. At 85 yds I would approximate that the arrow flies about 7 feet above your line of sight to reach its target. I was amazed to see how much velocity the Quad 400 retains at 50 yds. Using the chronograph set up at 50 yards, it still held 326.3 fps. Accuracy was optimum using the barnett factory arrows. The "Rage" mechanical 100 grn crossbow broadheads fly exactly like the field points. Don't even try to use fixed blades. They will not hit anywhere close to your bullseye. An awesome deal for the price. Plan on getting a new scope and scope rings for it and go ahead and buy more arrows as you will probably lose one getting started. My Quad 400 didn't come with a cocking rope so you should plan on buying one of those too. A really nice scope could be purchased at our local farm store for about $60. Anyone claiming inaccuracy with this crossbow is surely experiencing scope problems or didn't assemble the crossbow properly. I absolutely love it, I shoot it very regularly and cannot wait for our Illinois crossbow season to start!
